California Cruzin'

The Monthly hoplist for March 2008 by eXup

Image

From the redwood forest, to the snow capped mountains. from the sparkling sands to her diamond deserts, from The wheat fields waving and the dust clouds rolling.. this hoplist was made for you and me.

Lets cruise around California for a month. eXup has put together a list for us that jumps around the state showing us the sights, you will not visit any airport more that once , but the hoplist is designed so you may have a little traffic along the way.

The hops are well suited to small aircraft so we can go nice and slow, sit back, relax and take it all in. Some local information has also been added so we can have a read and learn a little bit on the way. A FSNav and GPS flight plan is also available for download. Read on for more info.

We hope to see you in California in March

  • 7452nm Total
  • 87 hops
  • shortest 8 nm
  • longest 463 nm
  • Average 85nm

California is the third largest U.S. state by land area; it contains a diverse geography, which ranges from the sandy and rocky beaches of the Pacific coast, to the rugged snow-capped Sierra Nevada mountains in the east, to desert areas in the southeast and the forests of the northwest. The center portion of the state is dominated by the Central Valley, one of the most productive agricultural areas in the world and the largest of any U.S. state. The Sierra Nevada mountains contain Yosemite Valley, famous for its glacially-carved domes, and Sequoia National Park, home to the giant sequoia trees, the largest living organisms on Earth. The state is home to Mount Whitney, the highest point in the contiguous United States,[2] as well as the second lowest and hottest place in the Western Hemisphere, Death Valley. Many of the trees located in the California White Mountains are the oldest in the world; one Bristlecone pine has an age of 4,700 years.

The California Gold Rush began in 1848, dramatically changing California with a large influx of people and an economic boom. The early 20th century was marked by Los Angeles becoming the center of the entertainment industry, in addition to the growth of a large tourism sector in the state. Along with California's prosperous agricultural industry, other industries include aerospace, petroleum, and computer and information technology. California ranks among the ten largest economies in the world, and were it a separate country, it would be 34th amongst the most populous countries, just behind Poland, as well as the world's sixth-largest

A Flight Plan for California Cruzin' is available. The flight plan is not required to do the hoplist it will just add all of the destinations to the GPS as one flight plan. It includes the start and finish airports with all destinations in between classed as waypoints. Install the .PLN file into your My Documents / Flight sim folder and load it onto your flight with the flight Planner. Dont press the "Find Route" button as this will wipe out all the waypoints. Just load and press OK. Your GPS will be set for the first destination and every successive airport after that.  When you finish your flying session save your flight as Monthly Hops. Then the next time you come to fly the Monthly Hops, just load the saved flight and everthing is set ready to go. (as long as its still the same month) You will also you will find a Navigation Log of the complete list on the Kneeboard. Very handy for looking ahead to see whats coming up.

Scenery
I done a quick search on AVSIM and there is a heap of scenery for California for FS9, about 101 files.. I didn't want to recommend any without testing it , but for starters a good mesh is essential for the hoplist . I did find a nice scenery package for FSX which I have tested , and it includes some of the airports on the list . FSX users should download the file so_cal_scenery_20_fsx.zip from Avsim, its very nice.

Hello !
I was on hop #17 of " California Cruzin' ", with the callsign - Cougar33 -
in the 20th of this month, when I took a break.
I should like to return to that hoplist.
How can I return to that list ?
Thank you !

It couldn't of been this month as this list hasn't been on the server since April 2008.
