This is a navigation hoplist that will give you instructions of where to start and how to get to the next destination as you hop around Australia using navigation skills only. This list has been put together using many of the OZx Airfields that are available as freeware. Most are small bush strips that fit in with the landscape, are quite hard to spot and dont show up on the GPS or "Go to Airport" menu options.

You will need
  • FSX Flight Simulator
  • OZx versions 1.0 and 1.1
  • FSHost Client - to connect to multiplayer
  • Some basic navigation skills

OZx is an airport package for FSX only. It adds over 160 airstrips to your flightsim. If you like flying VFR to small bush strips this free addon is a must.
OZx Airfields can be found at www.aussiex.org
FSHost Client is needed to connect to the server so you can fly online, receive the hop instructions and chat with others.
FSHostClient can be found at www.chocolatesoftware.com
Navigation skills are required as most of the instructions use VOR, NDB and DME. If you don't know how to use the navigation radios a great place to start is the FSX Tutorials. There is also some great information written in an easy to understand form at Flight Simulator Navigation
To start connect to the OZx Nav server on figs.hopto.org on port 23457 - for mor information on connecting to the server have a look at the FAQs or the FigAir Forum.
Once connected use the multiplayer chatbox and type ?hop . You will receive a message on where to start. This will be a default FSX airport so you will be able to use the World / Go to airport menu option. When you are at the start airport type ?hop in the chatbox again. You will receive another message on how to get to the first airport in the list.
All going well you will find the strip and land safely. Once on the ground (if you have landed at the correct place) a message will come up in the chatbox with instructions on how to get to the next airport. Follow these instructions and enjoy your time hopping around Australia.
The next time you visit, the server will remember you and tell you where to start based on where you finished previously. As most of the airfields are not on the airport menu, it is advised that when you finish, save your flight. So next time when you want to resume where you left off you can just load your saved flight and be at the correct place.
To help in times when you forget or your game crashes we have put together a list of saved flights. In the menu to the left under OZx Navigation you will find OZx Airfields. If you join the server and it asks you to start at an airfield that isnt in the FSX "go to airport" menu, you may use this list to get there. Just find the place where you need to be. Right click on it and "save as". Then open that saved file with FSX or place it into your MyDocuments / Flight Simulator X Files folder and open the saved flight from within FSX. You should be parked at the airport in a cessna. Ready to go.

This list is far from finished, but I have released it to see if it is popular enough to add to it. As it stands you will see most OZx airfields in Western Australia, South Australia, Victoria and Tasmania. If you want more, let us know about it in the forum.

26/11/2008 - NSW now added to the list
